Obituary for Ernest Sylvester Cummins

Ernest Sylvester “Penny” Cummins, 86, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 11, 2018.
Ernest was born on April 28, 1931, in Elizabethtown. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1951 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He loved his family and friends, gardening, fishing, bluegrass music, camping and all of his pets over the years.
Ernest retired from Charles C. Parks Wholesale Company out of Gallatin, Tennessee after 40 years of service as a truck driver and salesman. He loved all of his customers and many friends over those years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton L. and Mary Elizabeth Cummins; his loving aunt Mollie Nall Mann and two brothers, Melvin L. Cummins and James H. Cummins.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Gladys Mae Cummins; three daughters, Brenda Hines, Debbie Bryan (Danny) and Judy Millsap (Dan); four grandchildren, Darrel Hines (Vicky), Elaina Janes (Kelly), Michael Bryan (Allie) and Christopher Porter (Ashley); four great grandchildren, Ariel Betlej (David), Adamy Bryan, Jude Bryan and Norah Jane Bryan; one brother, Roger Cummins (Beth); one sister-in-law, Dorothy Morehead; his very dear life-long friend, Junior VanMeter and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral for Ernest Cummins is scheduled at 1PM Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Dixon-Atwood & Trowbridge Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Bro. Steve Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Elizabethtown City Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4-8PM Wednesday, March 14, 2018, and after 9AM Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, it was Ernest’s wish that donations be made to Hosparus of Central Kentucky.
