Obituary for Shirley Townsend

Shirley Townsend, 82, of Elizabethtown Kentucky, stepped peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 11, 2018 at her daughter’s home with her loving family by her side.
She is preceded in death by her dearly loved husband of 58 years, Warren Townsend; her mother, Cecile Ashcraft, and her “best little grandma”, Annie Corley.
She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Vickie Kay Reed, her “favorite son-in-law”, DeWayne Reed; her “grand-pup”, Muffin; her sisters, Rebecca “Becky” Betsworth and Mary Ashcraft Watts; her brothers-in-law, Rick Betsworth and Tom Watts as well as nieces and nephews and her many friends.
Shirley was a member of Valley Creek Baptist Church, where she loved her Sunday School class, serving as class secretary for many years. Prior to that, she sang and shared her love of Jesus in the Adult Choir at Severns Valley Baptist Church for 29 years. She retired in 2002 as Personnel Officer from Lincoln Village Youth Development Center after 23 years.
Shirley’s generous nature was well known. She used her God given gifts to minister to those around her, her favorite ways being to prepare food, to visit anyone in need and to give to her favorite charities and worthy causes. So following Shirley’s example, the family requests in lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance may be made to Hosparus of Central Kentucky for their compassionate care of Shirley through these last few months.
A service to celebrate the life of Shirley will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, March 14, 2018, in the chapel of Dixon-Atwood & Trowbridge Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8PM Tuesday, March 13, 2018, and after 10AM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Dixon-Atwood & Trowbridge Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is entrusted with the arrangements.
